Solar Power for a
Sustainable Supply Chain

A 1,785-panel solar farm located adjacent to Hallmark's Lawrence Production Center, delivering on-site renewable electricity to one of the company's most storied domestic manufacturing facilities. The project supports Hallmark's science-based targets and commitment to transitioning global operations to renewable energy by 2030.

Hallmark Cards Solar Array in Lawrence, KS

Background

Hallmark's Lawrence Production Center has been the heart of the company's domestic greeting card manufacturing since 1958, producing millions of cards and approximately 98% of all envelopes for Hallmark North America. As part of Hallmark's broader commitment to achieving science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets and transitioning its global facilities to renewable electricity by 2030, the company partnered with BioStar Renewables to develop and construct a 979 kW DC solar farm adjacent to the Lawrence facility.

The three-acre solar array consists of 1,785 bifacial panels capable of generating more than 1.3 million kWh of clean electricity annually, offsetting approximately 10% of the facility's electricity consumption. BioStar Renewables provided full development and EPC services, breaking ground on the project in May 2024 with construction completed in fall 2024.

Supporting Sustainability Goals

Hallmark has made a formal commitment to achieving a science-based emissions reduction target and transitioning all global facilities to renewable electricity sources — including solar and wind — by 2030. The Lawrence solar farm is a direct, visible expression of that commitment, generating clean electricity at the same facility where Hallmark produces the greeting cards it ships across North America.

Beyond the facility itself, Hallmark has extended the project's community impact by establishing a certified Monarch Waystation pollinator garden along the adjacent Lawrence Loop hike-and-bike trail, with plans for educational signage to inform the public about solar energy.
